Astro News: The holy month of Sawan is considered the best time to offer prayers to Lord Shiva, also known as Bholenath. Devotees all over India observe fasts, visit temples, and perform different types of rituals during this month to seek his blessings. One of the most sacred and powerful forms of worship during Sawan is the Parthiv Shivling Pooja, which involves making a Shivling from natural clay and offering prayers to it with full devotion.
However, this form of worship should be done correctly and as per traditional rituals to gain complete spiritual benefits. If done casually or with mistakes, the results may not be as effective. Here's a complete step-by-step guide to help you perform this pooja in the right way, using simple language.
What is Parthiv Shivling?
Parthiv Shivling is a symbolic form of Lord Shiva made from clay or mud. It is a temporary Shivling that is worshipped at home and later immersed in water. This practice is believed to fulfill wishes, remove sins, and bring divine blessings into the devotee’s life.
How to Make Parthiv Shivling
- Try to get clean soil from a riverbank, pond, or lake by digging two hands deep.
- If outdoor soil is not available, you may also use pot soil from your home garden.
- Filter the soil to remove any stones or debris.
- Add a few drops of Ganga water and a small amount of raw milk to the soil and mix it well
- Make a firm, dough-like mixture and prepare a small Shivling, no taller than your thumb.
- Place a fresh Belpatra with three connected leaves in a clean bowl.
- Sprinkle Ganga water on the Belpatra and place the Shivling over it.
- Form a small circular channel around the Shivling, known as a Jalhari, to hold and direct the water offerings.
Setting Up the Shivling
- Take a clean wooden plank or platform.
- Prepare a paste by mixing ochre (geru) with Ganga water, and spread it evenly over the platform.
- Place the vessel containing the Shivling on the prepared plank.
- You can also create 108 or 1008 small Shivlings if possible.
- Offer sacred ash (Bhasma) to the Shivling.
- Chant the mantra "Om Shulpaane Namah" during this process.Clap your hands three times and respectfully request Lord Shiva to manifest in the Parthiv Shivling.
- Clap three times and humbly invite Lord Shiva to reside in the Parthiv Shivling.
Performing the Worship
- Start by offering pure water (Jalabhishek) to the Shivling.
- Then offer Panchamrit—a mix of milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugar.
- Offer flowers, burn incense sticks, apply sandalwood paste, and light a diya in front of the Shivling.
- Recite the “Om Namah Shivaya” mantra with devotion.
- End the pooja with a Shiva Aarti.
Immersing the Shivling
After the worship, the Shivling must be immersed respectfully.
- The ideal way is to immerse it in a river, pond, or natural water source.
- If that is not possible, place it in a clean bowl, and pour the water into a plant or tree.
- Never offer this water to a Tulsi plant, as it is against religious beliefs.
